Recently I had the chance to visit AK Group — one of the most impressive and professionally run dairy farms I’ve seen in the hill tracts area, located in Manikchari Upazila, Khagrachari.
This large-scale modern dairy farm currently manages hundreds of high-yield developed cows (mostly good quality crossbreds). The daily milk production reaches an impressive around 1200 liters!
All this fresh milk is sold at 90 Taka per liter in nearby towns and the upazila sadar — very good price for both the farm and the local consumers.
What’s even more remarkable is the full breeding cycle they’re successfully running — the farm sees the birth of hundreds of baby calves every year, which helps them keep growing the herd while maintaining very good quality.
Some other interesting things I noticed during the visit:
• Very organized & clean cow sheds with good ventilation
• Proper milking system & equipment
• Large amounts of stored dry grass/hay (you can see huge stacks everywhere)
• Good drainage system around the sheds
• Solar panels installed (both on sheds and in some other places)
• Spacious fenced grazing/paddock areas
Most impressive of all — around 30 workers are regularly employed at the farm!
This is creating very meaningful year-round employment for local people — really beautiful to see a big-scale modern farm providing so many steady jobs in a rural upazila.
AK Group is a perfect example that shows:
